"Blossoming Like a Flower in the Sun... as if Awakening to Life"
From the innocent, whimsical perspective of a child, artist Nicole Haché paints works that stand as celebrations of life itself. Radiating energy and vitality, her colourful characters are the main focus of her creations, in which objects appear only rarely. Her philosophy is unmistakable: people before things.
Nicole Haché's latest collection, titled "S'épanouir" ("Blossoming"), consists of 10 works on display at the Assumption Gallery in Moncton from March 2 through April 30. Her characters move through a universe without borders or limits, evoking the open spaces of Lamèque Island, where the artist spent her childhood.
The surfaces of the works in this collection have great importance: in addition to providing the backdrops for various scenes, they represent the artist's environmentally friendly approach. "The materials I use in these paintings and my other works all come from nature, including seeds and plants from my own garden and fibres like wool, cotton and linen," explained Ms. Haché, who recently returned home from Europe, where she completed a creative art residency. "My goal is to highlight our ties to the earth and promote respect for the environment by showcasing its beauty."
The Artist's Journey
After she began painting in 2002 to fulfil an obsessive need for self-expression, Nicole discovered subjects inside her that were full of joy and exuberance. Her works were displayed for four consecutive years starting also in 2002 at the Festival des arts visuels en Atlantique, which awarded her its Prix du public in 2003. She has also participated in solo and group exhibits throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec as well as in France, Brazil and Romania. Her delightful creations have found their way into private collections worldwide, including in Switzerland, the United States and Japan.
