Assumption Life Bike Ride: A green day all the way!
|
Participants walked, biked or carpooled with family, friends or neighbours to attend the Assumption Life Bike Ride held on Saturday, October 3, at the New Brunswick Botanical Garden in Saint-Jacques. In addition to the bike ride, participants enjoyed group activities, buskers, face-painting, educational booths on environmental protection and kiosks featuring local products.
"Through this eco-friendly event, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding the environment and to promote active transportation, said Amélie Bergeron, marketing agent for Assumption Life. However, we also wanted to demonstrate that it’s possible to hold a family-friendly and fun event while also limiting our ecological footprint."
The promoters of the event are now going to offset the 0.3 tonnes of carbon emissions generated by this event by planting 3 trees in the city of Edmundston.
A load of ideas on the clothesline
Students from the Edmundston area were invited to pin their green messages on the event’s clotheslines. Participants at the event voted for the two school of their choice. The winning and participating schools were awarded cash prizes to help fund a green activity at their school:
1st place ($500): École Mgr-Matthieu-Mazerolle
2nd place ($300): École Saint-Jacques
Participating prizes ($100 each): École Régionale Saint-Basile, École Saint-Joseph, Cité des Jeunes A.M-Sormany and Carrefour de la Jeunesse
