Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)

Life Insurance provides employees with basic insurance protection and the opportunity to supplement their coverage with optional life insurance, both payable to the designated beneficiary. Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) provides employees with adequate protection in case of accidental death* or dismemberment.
 
* Life insurance doubles in the event of accidental death.

Short and Long Term Disability

  • Short Term Disability provides employees with the means to meet their continuing financial obligations in the event of short-term disability resulting from an accident or illness.

Second Medical Opinion (SMO) Services, offered by Maple, can be included within your group health benefits. This bilingual service connects members and their dependents  with licensed medical specialists across Canada, helping them make informed decisions about their care.  

Through Maple, patients can request a second medical opinion for diagnostics of serious conditions listed within the plan.  

The service includes a review of the patient’s medical file and may provide:  

  • A summary of the clinical history and key questions. 
  • A summary of completed medical examinations. 
  • Diagnostic and treatment recommendations, including potential options and suggestions for further investigation if applicable. 
  • Access to appropriate clinical resources to support the second opinion process. 

This service covers a wide range of serious medical conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, kidney failure, and degenerative neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or Alzheimer’s. It also extends to other complex or life-threatening illnesses.  

Individuals facing a serious health challenge are guided to the appropriate specialists and care resources to ensure they receive the best possible support for their situation.

Dental Care

From routine exams to surgeries, dental coverage offers employees and their dependents peace of mind

  • Alleviates the financial burden of high dental costs on employees and their dependents.
  • Promotes good dental hygiene.
  • Dentists can submit claims directly to Assumption Life.

Cost Plus

Assumption Life's Cost Plus program is an option that can be exercised for all health and dental expenses which exceed the limits outlined in the Benefits Summary or are not covered by the Group Insurance Plan. Expenses which are not covered by law are not included under this option.

Cost Plus offers four distinct advantages:

  • It covers expenses that are not covered elsewhere.
  • The expenses are a tax-deductible business expense.
  • The benefits are a non-taxable income for employees (Not applicable in Quebec).
  • Paid claims have no impact on the group experience.

Critical Illness

They say those who have their health have it all. However, a critical illness can change everything.

Would your employees have the financial means necessary to maintain their lifestyle and meet their financial obligations if they had to deal with a critical illness? Assumption life's Critical Illness Insurance solutions allow employees to focus entirely on getting well.

Assumption Life offers two types of Critical Illness Insurance to groups: the traditional Critical Illness Insurance and the High Severity Critical Illness Insurance.

Critical Illness Insurance

The plan is available to your employees with an option for their dependents. The plan covers 25 critical illnesses and an additional 6 conditions for dependent children.

If diagnosed with one of the 25  illnesses covered, your employee will receive the lump sum set out in your contract to help cover additional expenses along the road to recovery. These can include compensating for sick leave, paying for travel for treatment or paying for home care or treatments not covered by health insurance.

Coverage amounts:

For participant: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 or 3x their annual salary; in units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $250,000

For dependents: Spouse: Maximum Coverage of $50,000 Dependent children: Maximum coverage of $25,000 per child

High Severity Critical Illness Insurance

The plan is available to your employees with an option for their dependents and covers 9 critical illnesses. It can provide employees with a more affordable and accessible solution, while offering financial security to those whose has progressed to an advanced stage, causing significant financial hardship.

Coverage amounts:

For the participant: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 or 3x their annual salary; in units of $10,000, up to a maximum of $250,000

For dependents: Spouse only: Maximum coverage of $50,000

If diagnosed with one of the 9 critical illnesses covered, your employee will receive a tax-free lump sum set out in your contract to help cover additional expenses along the road to recovery. These can include compensating  for sick leave, paying for travel for treatment or paying for home care or treatments not covered by health insurance.
